The deep tech venture studio agrees to partnership with iconic innovation laboratory
ALBUQUERQUE (December 11) -- Roadrunner Venture Studios today announced a long-term strategic partnership with Nokia Bell Labs and America’s Frontier Fund (AFF) to establish a venture studio in New Jersey. The studio will be Roadrunner’s second after the launch of its New Mexico facilities earlier this month. This new studio will build on nearly a century of Nobel Prize-worthy inventions under Bell Labs leadership.
“The legacy of scientific discovery and innovation at Bell Labs helped inspire our mission to create disruptive companies from scientific breakthroughs," said Roadrunner co-founder Adam Hammer. "Together, we will build a premier venture studio on that legacy by bringing to market remarkable companies emerging out of this iconic American research institution.”
“No breakthrough founder can compete in today’s startup environment without great ideas and exceptional support,” said Roadrunner board member Evan Loomis. “This partnership between Roadrunner and Nokia is a founder’s dream, uniting Bell Lab’s iconic ideas engine with our company creation foundry. The resulting studio’s cradle to exit services will produce new era-redefining technology.”
“With the Nokia partnership today, Roadrunner extends its reach from the Southwest to the East Coast, becoming the first nationwide network of venture studios,” said President of AFF and Roadrunner board member Jordan Blashek. “With access to AFF’s network and resources, these studios will provide a new and needed pathway for ideas to go from lab to launch, concept to company.”
Roadrunner Venture Studios officially launched on December 5 with the Roadrunner Technology Forum held at the Wool Warehouse Theater in downtown Albuquerque. Leadership from Roadrunner’s partner, America’s Frontier Fund, as well as the New Mexico State Investment Council, Playground Global, Khosla Ventures, and Prelude Ventures all participated.
To date, Roadrunner has three portfolio companies, each innovating in critical sectors including advanced manufacturing, clean technology, and biotechnology. Roadrunner provides companies with a suite of services ranging from access to experienced advisors, customer discovery, product roadmapping, engineering support, legal services, HR and recruiting leadership, fundraising support, and lab and office space.
Nokia Bell Labs is a world-renowned idea factory. For nearly 100 years, its scientists have produced ten Nobel Prizes as well as the world’s first transistor, solar cells, and cellular technologies.
