Hydrosonics, Inc. raised $875K to advance its innovative hydrogen electrolyzer technology, aiming for a full Seed Round later this year.
One of Roadrunner’s first studio companies, Hydrosonics, Inc., completed raising a $525K Pre-Seed led by Roadrunner Venture Studios and joined by Dangerous Ventures and a local angel fund dedicated to deep tech innovation in New Mexico. Earlier this week, Hydrosonics also announced a $350K award of non-dilutive funding from the New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD).
This is the final milestone for Hydrosonics before Dr. Luis Chavez’s Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) spinout turns exclusively towards proving their technology will be as disruptive to the hydrogen economy as early testing indicates.
“We are excited to support Hydrosonics and their novel electrolyzer architecture,” said Ward Hendon, General Partner at Dangerous Ventures. “We are thrilled to partner with Luis Chavez as he brings the Hydrosonics technology out of LANL. Dangerous supports entrepreneurs solving hard problems with the potential to make a big impact in the energy transition and lead us to a sustainable future — and this is precisely what Luis is building with Hydrosonics."
Roadrunner heard Dr. Chavez’s pitch for Hydrosonics’ technology while he was a postdoc at Los Alamos National Laboratory. We invited Hydrosonics to the studio to scale its mission to create the world’s cheapest clean hydrogen. Using proprietary external stimulation to control electrode chemistry, the company is developing electrolyzers that promise to cut in half the capital required to deploy alkaline electrolyzers while increasing efficiency and enabling direct integration with renewable energy.
The startup has already proven the technology at the bench and is now looking to scale up the demonstration of their novel approach to enable small-scale and affordable on-site hydrogen production, fully integrated with renewable electricity.
The whole team at Roadrunner is celebrating Luis and his diligent work this week. We’re looking forward to more news on Hydrosonics’ technology and a full Seed Round fundraise later this year.
